Perhaps Lynch and Frost have wiped the dust off since then and would be able to write faster, but Twin Peaks is a careful and deliberate show.
It took Lynch and Mark Frost four and half years to write and film the 18 episode third season, so any new seasons would likely take a long time to produce. During an event at Belgrade Culture Centre in Serbia, Lynch told a crowd of people that it was too early to tell and that the time it takes to develop the series is a big factor. Mark Frost's comments line up with what David Lynch said about making Season 4 back in September. Showtime at least seems open to the idea of more episodes, but ultimately at the end of the day, the final decision really lies with Frost and co-creator David Lynch. In an interview with IndieWire, Mark Frost said that he hasn't "decided yet" on if he wants to make another season of his cult classic series Twin Peaks. It seems like no one is really quite sure yet if they want to continue Twin Peaks. I think it's still an open question and it's one that we're looking at and one that I think Showtime is musing as well.
